Commonly Asked Questions

  1. What’s the best way to compare fire truck models and pricing?

A lot of chiefs come to us with a certain budget, but they’re not sure about the best way to split that budget up. Other times, a chief might know he needs a tanker, but he won’t know which one best fits his needs.

At Fouts Bros we appreciate the opportunity to work closely with Fire Chiefs and other decision makers to help you understand your options.

Let us help you get the most fire apparatus for your money. Call Will or Travis at 1-866-447-7522.

  2. Why does Fouts Brothers prefer Poly Tanks over steel?

Three reasons: Lighter weight, better performance, and a lifetime warranty.

Poly tanks weigh about 50% less than steel tanks. Which not only gives your truck better performance on steep grades and rough terrain. It also allows you to carry more equipment.

Steel tanks are prone to corrosion. That’s not the case with Poly tanks. In fact, Poly tanks often last for decades with no noticeable decline in condition or performance.

We only use United Plastics Fabricating tanks. That makes a big difference. UPF is the only polypropylene manufacturer that is ISO 9001:2000 certified. And every UPF poly tank comes with a full lifetime warranty.

  3. Why does Fouts Brothers use Kenworth Trucks almost exclusively?

We believe that Kenworth makes one of the finest trucks available. And by working with Kenworth almost exclusively, we are able to manufacture your fire truck faster and at a much more affordable price.

Saving you money. We buy a large number of trucks from Kenworth, so we are able to get a volume discount. This enables us to make trucks more inexpensively than companies that deal with several different truck manufacturers.

Cutting delivery times. We already have spots reserved for us in Kenworth’s production line. So as soon as we get your order, we can use one of those spots to start production on your truck.

Getting you the truck you want. We don’t keep a stock of Kenworth trucks on our lot. We order your Kenworth—just the way you want it—from the factory. So you get exactly the truck you want for less money, and in less time.

    Service without a hassle.
Kenworth has service centers across the country. So getting service is easy and convenient if you need it. That’s not the case when you go with a lesser known manufacturer—or a completely custom unit.

  4. What are the advantages of aluminum bodies over steel?

    Three big advantages:

    1. Aluminum bodies don’t rust.
    2. They weigh significantly less than steel.
    3. And aluminum bodies come with a 10-year warranty—compared to only 6 years for steel.

  5. How should I choose between side-mounted and top-mounted pumps?

Top mounted pumps give you some great advantages. They help you to view the whole scene better, and they give you a better line of sight over other apparatus.

But side-mounted pumps give you something else that’s pretty important: a big cost savings. In most cases, side-mounted pumps cost $10-15 K less than top-mounted pumps.

At Fouts Brothers, we want to make sure we give you the most fire truck for your money. For that reason, side-mounted pumps come standard on many of our trucks.  But as with every aspect of what we offer, you can make that choice for yourself and when your budget allows it, you can get top-mounted pumps from us, too.

  6. Should I upgrade to LED lighting?

LED lighting uses less electricity than standard halogen lighting. It also comes with a 5-year warranty.

In efforts to keep costs down we offer it as an option rather than making LED lighting standard—and having to charge more money for our trucks as a result.

If you can upgrade to LED lighting it will cost you more up front, but it will save you in the long run.

  7. What the difference between CAFS and standard foam injection?

CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) is a more advanced technology for fighting fire with foam. It makes water up to five times more effective at putting out fires, while improving firefighter safety.

Other important benefits: Increased stream reach, a lighter hose for less fatigue, better heat reduction, fewer rekindles and faster clean up.

We offer Odin CAFS as an available option on all of our units.
